VGC19 Sun Series – Xerneas

Xerneas has only ever been legal in one VGC format before 2019. For most of 2016, Xerneas was the Pokémon to be and the Pokémon to beat. It dominated at the Regional and National level with 2016 US Nationals being a Xerneas mirror between Chase Lybbert and Aaron Traylor. While it was not as dominant at Worlds (pushed to Top 4 by Eduardo Cunha), it had the last laugh and won the last 2016 Regional in Ft. Wayne. Flashback to the present, Xerneas, and its favorite herb are back. For the sun series, Xerneas has been unleashed unto the world in its full strength.

Like all of the restricted Pokémon, Xerneas has insane base stats. Base 126/95/98 bulk coupled with a base 131 special attack is a ridiculous allocation of stats. Its ability is one of the best in the game. Fairy Aura grants a 1.33% boost to the field’s fairy type attacks (which stacks on Xerneas’ same type attack bonus). What makes Xerneas truly a lethal tool of war is the move Geomancy. The move is Xerneas’ exclusive move which is a two-turn attack that boosts the user’s Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by two stages. The charge turn of the move can be averted with the usage of the Power Herb. Combining all of these factors turns Xerneas into an offensive monster that cannot be ignored under any circumstances when teambuilding.
