The launch of Pokémon Sword & Shield has caused the hype for Pokémon to reach its peak once more. With the announcement of the VGC2020 ruleset, there’s plenty of enthusiastic Trainers who can’t wait to jump into the Stadiums. Having noticed the excitement from local Trainers since the introduction of Battle Stadium Doubles, PKMN-id is preparing for the biggest VGC tournament ever seen in Indonesia yet again. Enter PKMN-id Open 2020, powered by PRUL!
Indonesia is one of several countries without an official VGC license. To accommodate local VGC enthusiasts, PKMN-id, the biggest and leading Indonesian Pokémon community, has been organizing grassroots tournaments for years. In 2020, PKMN-id wants to make a breakthrough: providing both local and international Trainers with a world esports-class VGC Tournament through PKMN-id Open 2020. The event is sponsored by PRUL Market, the first toys and games marketplace in Indonesia, and PS Enterprise, top and trusted gaming and hobby store based in Jakarta.
The VGC tournament PKMN-id Open 2020 will be using the Nintendo Switch console and either a physical or digital copy of Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield. Due to time constraints, the Swiss rounds (capped at 7 rounds) will be held in best of 1. Meanwhile, the top cut (capped at top 16) will still be best of 3’s. No age division will be present, and trainers of any nationality are welcome to participate. There will be a prize pool of up to IDR 5,000,000 (USD 360), which the trainers will compete for.
PKMN-id Open 2020 will be held on Saturday, January 18th in Wisma 46 BNI, Central Jakarta, Jakarta, Indonesia. Registration for the VGC tournament will start at 8 AM local time (GMT+7), and the first round will be starting at 10 AM local time (GMT+7).
